We were driving north from Asheville and needed breakfast. I looked on Yelp and this gem came up. Seriously, it doesn't look like much (it's in an industrial park), but it's worth getting off the freeway and finding.

The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. The ambiance is early-American cafeteria: It's a large, clean, no frills dining room. The food, well, it's straight-up American stick-to-your-ribs wholesome goodness. They have a white-board that lists the specials of the day. If breakfast is any indication of how good the food is, I wish that I lived closer, so that I could try what they are serving for lunch and dinner.

I had scrambled eggs, breakfast ham, and amazingly crispy hash browns. You also get toast, but not gluten-free, so I didn't eat it.  You can also get fancy and have cheese and onions in your hashbrowns, but I opted out of that (dairy allergy) and they were great. The coffee was pretty good and plentiful. All of this for about $6. Can't beat it!

Every time that we're driving through this area, We're stopping here.

A bit out of the way and worth the diversion.  Straight up food (as my girlfriend described it) at very reasonable prices.

Food and beverages:  Two eggs, three generous slices of breakfast ham, delicious and appropriately crispy hash browns with cheese and onions, toast, and decent coffee for about six bucks.

Service:  The place is a large, clean, and well lit room with rows and columns of tables.  The food was delivered promptly and our waitress stopped by every few minutes to refill our coffee.

Other thoughts:  It seems like the owners have frozen prices and quantities to what I remember them from 40 years ago.  That's fine and I hope for our sakes they done read this review and start to think about not offering such great breakfast values.

This is already bookmarked for the next time we're heading south on vacation or heading back afterwards.

Awesome place!  Diamond in the rough... well worth the journey off the highway!. Down home hospitality with southern charm!

Before we left NC we had to come back to Sunshine's Cafe.   It is worth the drive. People are friendly, playful, respectful.  Great VALUE for the breakfasts.  Finally someone made my  and  the way I  it.  Seriously I would stop cooking breakfast and eat here every morning if this were my home . Lol.
Don't skip this place. It is quaint, simple decor, clean, and organized. Well oiled machine. The crew is productive the entire time.

Thank you for the fun memories Sunshine
